Educational Kinesiology: Is It Possible to “optimize” Work of Brain?

There are children who are not able to make a basic action – catch the ball, reach the left ear by right hand, etc. Often you can see how a man brings cell phone by his left hand to his right ear or vice versa – the right to the left.

The obvious connection of the body and the brain has received a scientific explanation only in the middle of the XX century in studies of American scientist Paul Dennison.

Analyzing the patterns of information perception and the development of inner speech of children, Dennison expanded the traditional understanding of the brain work and experimentally proved that hemispheres of many people perform unusual functions. This reduces the effectiveness of the training, abilities are blocked, and neuroses appear.

After examining the relationship between the work of the hemispheres and the ability to see, hear, and move, Dennison came to the conclusion that with the help of special physical exercises features of each hemisphere that are peculiar to it genetically can be restored, and the system balance can be achieved.

System that optimizes the brain is called educational kinesiology (knowledge through movement). A teacher, who is familiar with the basics of educational kinesiology, will always be able to tell which channel of perception of his student is leading – visual, kinesthetic or audio. And most importantly is how to use this knowledge for “peaceful purposes”?

Visual perceives information primarily optically, so it is not enough for the student only listens to the teacher’s explanation – he needed charts, graphs, models, illustrations. To enable a visual to work it is recommended to use verbs that activate the visual system: look, see, imagine, and so on, and the words that describe the color, shape and size of the object. Visuals have rapid speech and high reaction rate, as they think in images.

Kinesthetic cannot sit still for a moment during the explanation of the new material – because the assimilation of information is going through the motions. Understanding this will help adults more tolerantly attitude to fidgets, in a conversation with which it is better to use the words and examples relating to the description of movements and sensations – touch, feel, get, go through (the text), smooth and velvety. Kinesthetic speech is usually slow because they listen to their bodily sensations.

Students with leading audio canal perceive the information at first “by ear”. Activation of this channel is through words: hear, listen. Audio people are different by logic and rationality of thinking, their speech is measured, rhythmic and consistent.

The curriculum is mainly focused on the visuals. Kinesthetic and audio people have to “translate” teaching material in their own language, which requires additional time and efforts, often resulting in chronic underachievement. Kinesiology helps to determine the “leading” eye and ear – to put the student on the left or right at a distance from the board, which will enable him to absorb the maximum amount of information.

To identify the features of the hemispheres work is possible by using special diagnostics, according to which results exercises to strengthen the channels of perception are selected. The system of these exercises is called “Brain Gym” and helps develop attention and memory, improve coordination, to solve the problems of social adaptation and goal-setting. It is possible and necessary to master your body, emotions and mind, but only the vector of their application gives meaning to human life.
