Inkjet printers - These printers have a print head that contain thousands of very tiny holes. These holes squirt microscopic ink droplets to the material they are printing on usually papers.

Inkjet printers use liquid ink that contains solid pigments in suspension. The printing process occurs when the print head moves horizontally against the paper . As the print head moves horizontally in the printer, the paper passes through perpendicular to it. As the page passes through, the individual holes in the print head are activated (usually by heat electrical current depending on the manufacturer) and a small drop of ink is pushed out onto the page. These droplets recreate a digital image or text on the paper.

Laser printers - Laser printers consist of a drum unit and toner kit. Some manufactures however, can integrate these two into one unit. Laser printers use colored powder containing very fine particles to form images or text on the paper .Laser printers work using a heated wire to positively charge the drum, which is then passed over by a laser that reverses the charge in the areas that it hits. The now-negatively charged areas of the drum represents the image or text that is to be printed.

A toner roller is passed over the drum, and toner powder particles stick to the negatively charged areas. A sheet of paper is then fed underneath the toner-coated drum and the toner is passed onto its surface, creating a printer copy of a digital document or image.

Dot matrix printers- As the name suggest, dot matrix printers use dots to represent text or image on the printing material which is usually paper. Dot matrix printers consist of an ink-soaked ribbon and a print head. In order to print an impression, the ink ribbon is in between the print head and the paper. The print head hits on the ink ribbon and impression is formed on the paper. These printers are common in places where utility bills/receipts are printer for example banks.
