The loudness of a sound is determined by its amplitude: the larger the amplitude of oscillations in a sound wave, the louder the sound. So, when the oscillations of the sounding tuning fork fade out, along with the amplitude, the volume of the sound decreases. Conversely, striking the tuning fork more strongly and thereby increasing the amplitude of its vibrations, we will call a louder sound.
