Question #63714

Why Earth attracts us?

Expert's answer

The famous Newton’s law of universal gravitation states that every object attracts every other object with a force that is directly proportional to the mass of each object and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the two objects:

* here, is the force between the objects, is the gravitational constant, is the mass of the first object, is the mass of the second object and is the distance between the centres of the objects.

* As we can see from the Newton’s law of universal gravitation, the object with great mass will attract the object with the small mass. So, the reason why the Earth attracts us is because of its mass.
