A n-type semiconductor is a semiconductor in which the main charge carriers are electrons.

In order to obtain an n-type semiconductor, the own semiconductor is doped with donors. For the most part, these are atoms that have one electron more on the valence shell than the atoms of the doped semiconductor. For example, silicon is doped with phosphorus.
