in COMPOUND MICROSCOPE the total magnification is obtained by MULTIPLYING the magnification of eyepiece and objective lense. WHY we don't ADD them up. why we multiply them?

It is because each lense provides own magnification. Second lense working with already magnified image formed by first lense.
