How to lower down the laser threshold in Nd-glass laser and what we want to achieve (purpose/get) by lowering down it?

Lower down the laser threshold in Nd-glass laser and achieve by lowering it using a polarizer and the half plate to reduce the intensity, but this solution is costly.

So That is the best way to use it within a microscope system. You could buy a very cheap sheet polarizer to test, whereby it becomes cheaper, not expensive.
