With a “standing wave” we call such a time-independent periodic distribution of some value in the medium, which is characterized by a presence of maxima, and minima with 0 value.
Such a distribution can be for instance created by the reflecting waves inside a resonator.
Considering the 3 laws I assume I should answer about the Mersenne's laws:
The fundamental frequency is:
1) Inversely proportional to the length of the string
2) Proportional to the square root of the stretching force
3) Inversely proportional to the square root of the mass per unit length.
