What is the reason for adding an acceptor element to a semiconductor?

Semiconductors are usually made of chemical elements of IV group, it means that these elements have 4 valence electrons. To make it a real semiconductor we can add an acceptor of donor element. Acceptor elements have 3 valence electrons, which form 3 bonds with 4 valence electrons of main element. One “empty” bond represents a hole – a place where an electron is deficient. This is how p-type semiconductors are made
