Reverse biasing of a semiconductor junction diode increases its energy band gap

When semiconductor junction is reverse biased i.e. negative terminal of the battery connected to the P type region and positive terminal connected to the n type region. Then holes are attracted to the depletion layer in the n type region and electron are attracted to the depletion layer in the p type region . So, this widen up the depletion layer and increases the energy band gaps.
