When a diode is reverse biased it act as a open switch due to band gap, this band gap is different for every diode depending upon the doping. When diode is reverse biased then P region get attracted to the negative terminal of the battery and electrons (negatively charged) get attracted to the positive terminal of the battery. So the depletion regions are broaden up.

Answer: So, at reverse biased condition band gap of diode increases. Statement is true.
