With conventional current flowing counterclockwise from a top view perspective, in what direction does the north pole of the compass needle at the center of the current-carrying coil of wire point?

The direction of magnetic field created by current is toward us, we look at circuit from a top view perspective. The North pole of needle will always point along direction of field. Hence, if there is possibility (if its in air) needle will point towards us. If it can move only in circuit plane, there direction will be arbitrary.
