sir i m a student from odisha of class xi....i have some doubts...


1. When mercury is dipped in glass then a convex meniscus is formed…..then for which material mercury forms concave meniscus?

2. When water is kept inside a glass then a concave meniscus is formed resulting in the increase in the surface area.........But liquid always try to occupy lesser surface area...Then how could this situation be poissible?

3.In Toricelli's Barometer the rise in Hg in the jar is due to the pressure from the Hg in the tube.....Then how could this pressure be gauge pressure?
