tower knows that the cosine of the angle of elevation of the top of the tower is 0.53
.How far is he standing from the froot of the tower ?

The distance between the man and the tower and the tower itself are legs of right triangle. Therefore
distance=height*cotan(angle)
angle=cos^-1(0.53)=approximately 58 degrees.
So we obtain distance=height*cotan(angle)=20*cotan(58)=12.5m
