No person or organ of State may interfere with the functioning of the courts, and an order or decision of a court binds all organs of State and people to whom it applies.

The Correctional Services Act defines the purpose of the department and contributes towards maintaining and protecting a just, peaceful and safe society by detaining all prisoners in safe custody whilst ensuring that their human dignity is respected.
