Answer to Question #196072 in Electrical Engineering for Pavan

Question #196072

Draw the equivalent circuit of single phase transformer and explain the parameters referred to primary and secondary

Expert's answer

Primary Components

The resistance R1 and reactance X1 represent the primary winding's winding resistance (DC resistance) and leakage reactance.

On the main side, the total current I1 equals the phasor sum of Io and I2'.

I2' = KI2 is the additional main current that flows as a result of the load attached to the transformer's secondary side.

Secondary Components

The resistance R2 and reactance X2 represent the secondary winding's winding resistance and leakage reactance.

ZL is a resistive, inductive, or capacitive load impedance.

By shifting all of the values to either the main or secondary side, the equivalent circuit of a single-phase transformer is further simplified.

This is done to make the computations easier.
