Lattice mis-fit is a situation where two materials featuring different lattice constants are brought together by deposition of one material on top of another.

Lattice mismatch is important as it will prevent growth of defect-free epitaxial film unless thickness of the film is below certain critical thickness.

An example of lattice mis-fit is that of lattice mismatch at the interface of a InAs epi-layer and a GaAs substrate.
