Answer to Question #223906 in Chemical Engineering for Lokika

Question #223906

A Test tube, 1.5 Cm in diameter and 12cm long, has 0.4g camphor on it. How long will it take for the camphor (C,H,O) does disappear? The pressure is atmospheric and the temperature is 200C. The sublimation pressure of camphor at this temperature is 97.5 mmHg and the diffusivity of camphor can be estimated by using the fuller' equation. Diffusion volumes: C-16.4, H=1.98, O-5.48, Air 20.1?

Sublimation process is taken place when camphor disappears when kept in air for few days. Camphor is made of sublime solid. For most, like camphor, that pressure is well below one atmosphere; so under earthly ambient. The internal pressure in the tube will rise to the point that the liquid phase is stable.
