When you receive a declaration, how long do you get to send the form to the ATO? What happens if you fail to do so?

Tax returns are filed for the fiscal year from July 1 to June 30. If you file your tax return yourself, then the deadline is October 31.

Generally ATO don't apply penalties in isolated cases of late lodgment.

ATO warn you by phone or in writing if you've failed to lodge. If ATO apply FTL penalty, then ATO send you a penalty notice stating the amount and due date of the penalty.
