Answer on Physical Chemistry Question for Casey

Question #29621
If 4.50 g of methane gas (CH4) is introduced into an evacuated 2.00 L container at 35 degress C, what would be the pressure in atmosphere ?
Expert's answer
To calculate the pressure we can use the formula:

PV = nRT

P - the pressure
n - amount of substance
V - the volume
T - the temperature
R - universal gas constant
P = nRT / V = (4.50 g CH4 / 16.04257 g CH4/mol) x (0.08205746 L atm/K mol) x (35 + 273 K) / (2.00 L) = 3.54 atm

Answer: 3.54 atm
