in determination H2S in crude oil at first H2S extract with Borax 3% then titrate with IODINE why do not we use NaOH?

The highly basic solution of alkali can cause the oil hydrolysis. The unsaturated oil salt formed in the hydrolysis of oil can interact with the iodine and thus affect the obtained result.
