Answer to Question #11106 in Other Chemistry for safa

Question #11106
1. an aqueous solution has a pH equal to 2.what do you infer about its acidic and basic character?
2.what is the colour of methylorange i.acidic mediumii.basic medium
Expert's answer
1) It is a very low value of pH. As we know, low pH (<7) is observed in acidic conditions, while high pH (>7) is related with basic conditions. So this solution has acidic character.
2) In an acidic medium methyl orange is reddish and in basic medium (pH>4,4) it is yellow. In a solution becoming less acidic (from 3,1 to 4,4), methyl orange moves from red to orange and finally to yellow.
