b) Explain the following: (5)
i) In case of addition reaction of HBr to propenenitrile, the secondary
carbocation is less stable than the primary carbocation while in chloroethene
secondary carbocation is more stable than primary carbocation.
ii) Reaction of 1,3- butadiene to maleic acid gives cis product while fumaric acid
gives trans product.
iii) Alkynes are less reactive than alkenes towards electrophilic reagents.
iv) Addition of HBr to propenenitrile does not follow Markownikoff’s rule.
v) Addition of HBr to conjugated diene gives 1,2 addition and 1,4 addition
products
