When sodium salt of carboxylic acid is heated with soda lime then we get a less carbon alkane. The reaction is called decarboxylation.

RCOONa+NaOH CaO,∆-> RH + Na2CO3

There is only one sodium salt to obtaine neopentane via carboxylarion:

CH3C(CH3)2CH2COONa

The reaction is:

CH3C(CH3)CH2COONa + NaOH -> C(CH3)4 + Na2CO3
