Names of blocks in periodic table are s, p, d, f because of s-, p-, d-, f- elements in each block.
s-, p-, d-, f- elements – are different elements with electrons on defined orbital.& For example, the s-block element of the periodic table consists of the first two groups: the alkali metals and alkaline earth metals, plus hydrogen and helium. They have electrons on the s-orbital. The p-block of the periodic table of the elements consists of the last six groups minus helium. In the elemental form of the p-block elements, the highest energy electron occupies a p-orbital.
