Answer to Question #32359 in Organic Chemistry for ravi teja
My question is that is we have some other groups like aldehyde or ketone with an alkene in the same compound . will the c=o of aldehyde or ketone get affected by the addition of HBr in the persence of peroxide?
Such compounds are rapidly brominated in dioxane with the H2O2 - HBr aqeous system, resulting in the replacement of two hydrogen atoms in the methyl group with bromine. The reaction is also accompanied by bromination of the aromatic ring provided that the latter contains electron-donating substituents.
