Answer to Question #21857 in Organic Chemistry for Heidy
Which non-aqueous solvent can be used to dissolve grass, oil, paint, nail polish, and chewing gum?
There are two main solvents for chewing gum:turpentine and naphtha (petroleum,long-chain alkanes). The same solvents can be used for oil, paint oil and nail polish, but for last one acetone is the most popular solvent. In case of grass really good solvent is copper ammonia complex in ammonia, but it may be unsuitable for dissolving other substances.
