Answer to Question #125502 in Organic Chemistry for Abid Amin

Question #125502
A piston filled with 0.04 mole of an ideal gas expands reversibly from 50 mL to 375 mL at a constant temperature of 37°C. As it does so, it absorbs 208 J of heat. Calculate q, w, ΔU, and ΔH for the process.

the correct answer is;

 As the heat is absorbed.

∴q=+208J

Now for reversible isothermal process,

q=−W

∴W=−q=−208J.

Hence the values of q and W for the process will be +208J and −208J respectively.

 Process is isothermal reversible expansion, hence △U = 0.

Delta H equals to Q which is 0.208 kj/mol
