although acids are corrosive to metals, you were able to pour these acids down the drain without hurting the pipes. Why?

Because(of course, if the pipe were made from metal), acids are not extremely
corrosive to all metal. Some metals corrode in acids very slowly. If the pipes
were made from ceramic or plastic, acids can not corrode this material.
