Na is metallic sodium. It is not diatomic.

The gases become diatomic because it gets them their preferred 8 valence electron shell, you can see why noble gases have no need to be diatomic.

Na is not diatomic because it's so reactive, sodium is only found in nature as a compound--never as a free element.
