Ionic compound is a compound with ionic bond. The ionic bond is the electrostatic force that holds the cations and anions in an ionic compound. Elements in such compound have very different electronegativities. Compounds with ionic bond: NaCl, LiF, NaBr. Atoms of Cl, F and Br have more electron density.
In covalent bond, atoms share one or more pairs of electrons. Elements in such compounds have close electronegativities. Compounds with covalent bond: H2O, CO2, N2.
