Elements in such compound have very different electronegativities. Compounds with ionic bond: NaCl, LiF, NaBr. Atoms of Cl, F and Br have more electron density.
In covalent bond, atoms share one or more pairs of electrons. Elements in such compounds have close electronegativities. Compounds with covalent bond: H2O, CO2, N2.
