Answer to Question #129721 in Inorganic Chemistry for Nadia

Question #129721

If the crystal data were recorded as a(Å) = 21.86; b(Å) = 16.453; c(Å) = 7.184; alpha

= 90 degree; beta = 97.643 degree; gmma = 90 degree, describe how to predict the crystal system for the complex.

There are seven crystal systems in total: triclinic, monoclinic, orthorhombic, tetragonal, trigonal, hexagonal, and cubic. In order to predict crystal system we need to compare edge lengths and interaxial angles with the characteristic data which can de find here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystal_system

In our case we have three different edge lengths and two similar interaxial angles 90 degree. It is monoclinic crystal system.
