X-ray diffraction (XRD),X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) are used to investigate positive electrode materials for Lithium ion battery.

X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques can be used for initial structural characterization of pristine materials and ex situmeasurements on cycled electrodes, but practical considerations such as low signal strength and the relatively long times needed to collect data limit the amount of information that can be obtained on the discharge and charge processes.

X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), also sometimes referred to as X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS) gives information about the local electronic and geometric structure of materials.
