Answer to Question #72989 in General Chemistry for CristyBMel

Question #72989
I would like to know which branch or area of chemistry is appropriate for bath bomb? It is a combination of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and citric acid that is when dissolved in water, creates fizz. I'm not sure if it's organic chemistry (medicinal chemistry) or physical chemistry (chemical kinetics).

Please help.

The bomb for the bath belongs to organic chemistry, because the citric acid is an organic compound. And the formation of foam, which occurs when the bomb dissolves in water, belongs to colloidal chemistry.

Dear CristyBMel, we can study this process from both sides. So the division is rather conditional.

someone I asked answered me this: "In my opinion, it is physical chemistry because it encompass (1) thermodynamics and (2) kinetics." what do you think?
