there are several types of measuring glassware used in chemical experiments. Some of them are intended for the measurements of approximate volumes and are used where we do not need high precision, and some are of high precision and are used in analytical chemistry measurements.

Among the measuring devices with not very high precision we can mention graduated cylinders, beakers and graduated flasks. Their volume can be different (typically from 10-25 ml to 2 L). The most precise of them are the cylinders, while for the beakers and flasks the deviations in measuring the volume can be up to few ml depending on the volume of the measuring ware.

Among the glassware for the precise measurements there are volumetric flasks, burettes and volumetric pipettes. Volumetric flasks typically have the volume from 25 to 2000 ml, while most burettes and pipettes are rather small (1-100 ml). Using them, it is possible to measure volumes with very high precision.

When you measure the volume of liquid, you have to remember one simple rule: the depth must be measured at eye level, and at the center of the liquid meniscus (the bottom of the concave meniscus or the top of the convex meniscus).
