Answer to Question #56059 in General Chemistry for sue

Question #56059
Write the net ionic equation to show the formation of a precipitate (insoluble salt) when the following solutions are mixed. Write noreaction if there is no precipitate.

NaCl(aq) and KNO3(aq)
Express your answer as a chemical equation. Identify all of the phases in your answer. Enter noreaction if no precipitate is formed.
Expert's answer
Solution
NaCl(aq) +KNO3(aq) = NO REACTION
Complete ionic equation:
Na+(aq) +Cl-(aq) +K+(aq) +NO3-(aq) = Na+(aq) +Cl-(aq) +K+(aq) +NO3-(aq)
All the ions in this equation are present on the reactant side and on the product side in exactly the same form. So, all these ions are spectator ions. In a net ionic equation, all spectator ions are completely removed, and this equation cannot be written in this case (because all the ions are cancelled.
Answer: NO REACTION
