Answer: The kappa conventions are used to describe the bonding of ligands to central atoms. The kappa convention has its roots in coordination chemistry and allows the donor atom(s) in a ligand to be specified and, in the case of polynuclear systems, it is also used to indicate the central atom to which the donor atom is bound.
