The addition of chemical oxidizers (hypochlorites, chlorine, potassium permanganate, hydrogen peroxide or oxygen) to sour water results in the formation of sulphate (SO42−). The partial oxidation of H2S to elemental sulphur (S0) instead of SO42− has several advantages.
