Similarities

If you have determined the percentage of each element in a compound, you can determine the empirical formula. You determine the percent of the elements in the unknown compound. You determine the number of moles of each element in the unknown compound. You determine the mole ratio of each of the elements.


Differences.

Empirical Formula Mass is the sum of the atomic mass units of the component atoms in the Empirical Formula and is measured in amu, a very small but real mass equal to "1.660 539 066 60 (+\/-50)\u00d710^{\u221227 }kg." It is slightly less than the mass of a single Hydrogen atom.


Percent composition is a set of dimensionless numbers that specify the proportion of total mass of a sample of a pure compound contributed by each of its component elements.
