A salt bridge is a laboratory device that maintains electrical neutrality within the internal circuit of a galvanic cell/ voltaic cell, a type of electrochemical cell. It is used to connect the oxidation and reduction half-cells of the galvanic cell.

The salt bridge usually consists of a strong electrolyte which is further made up of ions. For example, AgNO3, KCl, 


the anode is the electrode at which the oxidation half-reaction occurs while the cathode is the electrode at which the reduction half-reaction occurs
