Answer to Question #166868 in General Chemistry for Elizabeth

Question #166868
  1. How many grams per milliliter does a soln of KNO2 contain if it is 0.100 N as a reducing agent? How many grams of SO2 is contained in a liter of a solution of H2SO3 which is 0.05860 N as a reducing agent?
  2. 4. What is the normality of a nitric acid solution to be used as an oxidizing agent (reduced to NO) if it contains 55.50% by weight of HNO3and has a specific gravity of 1.350
  3. 5. In the reaction expressed by the equation: 13Pb3O4(s) + 2Mn3O4(s) + 72H+  6MnO4- + 39Pb2+ + 36H2O (a) What is the numerical value of the equivalent weight of Pb3O4 as an oxidizing agent (b) the milliequivalent weight of Mn3O4 as a reducing agent, and (c) the volume of 0.1500 N FeSO4 solution required to titrate the permanganate formed from 0.2000 mmol of Mn3O4?

1. A reducing agent is an element or compound that loses an electron to an electron recipient in a redox chemical reaction.

2. Molarity = % by wt * density * 10/Mol. wt

For nitric acid molarity = normality

3. Eq.wt (Pb3O4) = molecular weight/13

Eq.wt(Mn3O4) = molecular weight/2
