Start by adding water to the mixture of sand and salt. Shake the mixture to make sure that the salt dissolves completely. Decant the water leaving the sand particles and pour the water into an evaporation pan. The water will evaporate leaving the salt particles. The property that make this possible is solubility. While salt is soluble in water, sand is not therefore making separation easy
