Spinal cord:

- Transmits electric signals from periphery (organs, muscles, skin, sensory organs, etc.) to brain and vice versa – from the brain to peripheral organs and tissues, as well as between different parts of the body;

- Regulates some spinal reflexes including (withdrawal reflex, stretch reflex, flexor reflex, i.e., plantar reflex, abdominal reflex, etc.);

- Maintains muscle tone;

- Regulates walking process comprising coordinated work of muscles (flexors and extensors) of both legs.
