Answer to Question #23357 in Other Biology for Rabiya
Question #23357
what was the relation between the distribution of chlorophyll in the veriegated leaf and the distribution of starch revealed by iodine?
Expert's answer
There should be an exact correspondence between the previous distribution of chlorophyll and the distribution of starch in the leaf as revealed by the iodine test. Starch has been produced only in the green areas presumably because chlorophyll is necessary for photosynthesis.

Dear Zian,
Chlorophyll determines the intensity of photosynthesis that produces glucose. Glucose is stored in plant cells in the form of starch. Chlorophyll and and starch are separated in space. Chlorophyll is a component of special membrane structures (thylakoids) in chloroplasts. Starch is stored in a chloroplast stroma. It can be easily determined using iodine that binds with starch granules making them purple while chlorophyll is green.
How can u compare the distribution of starch and the distribution of chlorophyll?
