The Zulu people believed that their warlord Shaka controlled the sun. If the sun was attached, they believed Shaka would be the next victim. They would protect their kingdom by appointing a substitute of the King. The real king would be taken into hiding for this eclipse period. The king resumed his position after the eclipse passed. Zulu people in South Africa still believe an eclipse is a bad omen to their kingdom and always protects their current elders during an eclipse.
