A specimen collection involves the collection of tissue or fluids for laboratory analysis. All the samples must be labeled with name, code, identifier, type the specimen, etc. All specimen containers must be transported in a self-sealing polythene bag with the laboratory request form compartment and the specimen compartment. Specimens must be sent to the laboratory as soon as possible. Finally, specimen containers should be discarded into containers filled with disinfectant or hazardous waste bags. Reusable plastics, glass, and other materials should be kept separate from disposables for disinfection and decontamination before later reuse.
