Antibiotics inhibit microbial growth by preventing its DNA replication. In addition, there are other antibiotics that kill the microbial growth by preventing bacteria from making protein thus inhibiting its growth. Also, antibiotics affects things that bacterial cells have but human cells don have. For instance, human cells do not have cell walls unlike many types of bacterial. Thus, affecting the cells with cell walls will kill or inhibit microbial growth.
