Speciation can be caused by the following factors;

1.     Geographic isolation which can be caused by physical barriers such as mountains, sea and oceans, this form of isolation leads to reproductive isolation and the flow of genes between the isolated groups is cut.

2.     Genetic drift also causes speciation by causing drastic change in the expression of particular genes which occurs randomly.

3.     Natural selection also causes speciation by the environment favoring a specific group within the habitat.

4.     The genetic mutation also leads to speciation by drastic changes in the DNA leading to the formation of a new genome.
