The nursing staff had been injecting the medication into the gluteal area, but this area was becoming sore from all of the prior injec- tions. What options might she use for the future to avoid pain in the area of the injections?

Apply cold pack to the injection site, about 15 minutes before administering the medication. Numbing the skin will temporarily reduce pain and serve as another distraction since your skin will be very cold.

Numbing cream can also be prescribed.
