Human Anatomy and Physiology

Flexion and extension are the muscle movements experienced during the freestyle swimming motion. These movements take place around the elbow and Radioulnar joints. Biceps brachii short head, pronator teres, brachialis, and brachioradialis muscles are the ones responsible for elbow flexion movements (Everett, & Kell, 2010). The anconeus, triceps brachii lateral head, triceps brachii long head and triceps brachii medial head are the muscles responsible for extension movement around the elbow joints. At the shoulder joint, deltoid middle fibres, teres minor, posterior deltoid fibres, infraspinatus, and latissimus dorsi muscles are used during horizontal abduction movements.
